Road Trip: part 3

Bit belated this entry, but more due to my incompetence than anything bad!

Tuesday night in London was great. The city really seems to come alive when the sun goes down. Even though it was night, the heat was still stifling. I met up with a friend at Liverpool Street Station, and the pair of us seemed to be sweating our entire bodyweight out.
Having said my goodbyes to Chris, I headed off – and headed for The Cart & Horses pub near Maryland station. Famed for being the site of Iron Maiden’s early gig, the pub certainly plays up to the Maiden link with the Eddie mural and lots of mentions on the outside. Not sure MTV Base is the best channel to show inside, but there you go.

Curiosity once again satisfied, it was back on the tube to head to Tottenham Court Road and a pub I’ve visited before – The Intrepid Fox. The layout is great, the decor is just what you’d expect a grungy, rock pub to be and the music was great… Yet it just felt a bit wrong there. Last time I was there, I struck up a conversation with a guy at the bar, not this time. Everyone there was staring into their drinks as if their life depended on it. A very self insulated crow, maybe it was just an off night.

Off again I headed, just a few streets away to the highlight of London nightlife tour – the awesome Cro Bar. Absolutely loved it in there. A perfect jukebox, Iron Maiden’s Trooper beer, walls adorned with old 2000AD pages, and an indepth chat with a dude about the history of Rush and UFO. Oh, and a pug drinking a glass of vodka and coke while it’s owner was distracted. Can’t beat some entertainment! I’d highly, HIGHLY recommend The Cro Bar to any rock music fan, or just anyone looking for somewhere offbeat to hang.

Hitting the streets again, I hopped a taxi to Westminster to get the all important night time Big Ben photos every tourist wants. Absolutely stunning at night, and the London eye too. I managed to successfully negotiate the late night trains, avoid the drunk woman wanting 20p for the phone box, and get back to the hotel in one piece. A grand night, all in all.

I am... I'm me. I will, you'll see. Or... you know, I might not. Depends if it's raining or not, and there might be a cool flick on TV.
